Nigerian music legend, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face, has shed light on his separation from actress and long-time partner Annie Idibia, following more than a decade together.
Speaking on the 234 Mzansi Podcast with Nedu, 2Face revealed that both he and Annie made significant efforts to salvage their marriage before ultimately deciding to part ways.
“I think both of us gave it our best,” 2Face said during the interview. “Me and her have our own understanding. She’s amazing. It just wasn’t working anymore.”
While he chose not to disclose specific details about their breakup, 2Face emphasized the importance of emotional well-being in relationships. He encouraged people not to remain in unhappy marriages due to societal pressure.
“I think you should try to fix your marriage, but if it’s beyond that, I don’t think anybody should force anything,” he added. “Only people in the marriage know exactly what they’re feeling.”
He also warned against “living in bondage” for the sake of appearances, stating that many individuals suffer silently and die unhappy because they forced themselves to remain in dysfunctional relationships.
2Face’s candid remarks sparked a wave of mixed reactions online. While many praised him for his honesty and emotional maturity, others criticized him, citing his past behavior.
Here are some notable reactions from social media:
• @divine_neny: “He can’t even say or place a finger on what she did to him. Annie loved him too much.”
• @t_e_s_s_y123: “Annie’s crime was loving someone else more than herself. We can all learn from their story.”
• @rejioce.johnson.12: “Even if Annie’s at fault, we’re happy she’s no longer in that marriage. She deserves peace and real love.”
• @belleglamchic: “Why is he hopping from one interview to another?”
• @agentvic_: “He chose not to bash her, and some people are still angry. Let people own their truth.”
• @favsgold_declutter: “May we not love someone who will leave us halfway in life. Amen.”
The couple’s breakup has been in the spotlight since 2Face announced his divorce earlier this year. The singer has since started a new relationship with Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru, further fueling public discussion.
Earlier, 2Face sparked controversy by stating in another interview that “men cannot be with just one woman,” a remark that reignited debates about loyalty and commitment in relationships.
