Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has called on his former club to sign Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin during the ongoing summer transfer window.
Speaking after Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over Benfica in the Club World Cup Round of 16, Mikel expressed his belief that Trubin could be a valuable addition to Enzo Maresca’s squad, despite a mistake by the Ukrainian goalkeeper during the match.
“Again, another mistake from Trubin,” Mikel said on DAZN. “We talked about him before the game. He has had a brilliant tournament so far.
I still think we [Chelsea] need to get Trubin.”
Currently, Chelsea have four goalkeepers on their books — Filip Jorgensen, Mike Penders, Djordje Petrovic, and Robert Sánchez. However, the club is expected to offload two of them this summer to create room and offer more playtime opportunities.
