What the DAAD Scholarship Covers

DAAD offers comprehensive financial support for international students pursuing postgraduate programs (especially those in development, public policy, engineering, education, health, and environmental science).

If awarded, you’ll receive:

• 💶 Monthly stipend: €934 (for master’s) or €1,200 (for PhD)
• 📚 Full tuition waiver (where applicable)

Eligible Programs & Fields of Study

DAAD supports a wide variety of postgraduate degree programs across disciplines, especially those related to development cooperation:

• Public Policy & Governance
• Engineering & Renewable Energy
• Health & Medicine
• Education & Social Sciences
• Agriculture & Food Security
• Sustainability & Environmental Sciences
• Business, Finance & Economics

Most programs last between 12 and 24 months (for master’s) and up to 48 months (for PhDs).

Who Can Apply?

DAAD is open to students from developing countries, including all of Sub-Saharan Africa.

You qualify if:

• You hold a bachelor’s degree (with minimum 2:1 or equivalent)
• You have at least two years of work experience
• Your last degree was obtained within the past 6 years
• You are not currently living in Germany
• You meet specific requirements of the chosen course

💡 Note: Most courses do not require a German language certificate—just proof of English proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL).

Application Steps:

1. Browse the list of eligible courses under the “Development-Related Postgraduate Courses” (EPOS) here:

2. Choose a maximum of three courses you want to apply to.
3. Prepare the required documents:
   • Signed DAAD application form
   • CV (in EUROPASS format)
   • Letter of motivation (1–2 pages)
   • Academic certificates and transcripts
   • Proof of employment & recommendation letters
   • IELTS or TOEFL scores
4. Submit your application directly to the universities (unless the program specifies otherwise).
