In a major policy shift, Lagos State University (LASU) has announced a new admission system for the 2025/2026 academic session. The update, revealed through an official circular issued by the university’s Admissions Office, outlines structural changes to how candidates will be evaluated and admitted into various undergraduate programmes.
According to LASU authorities, the revamped system places more emphasis on internal screening and direct institutional input, rather than solely relying on JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). This means LASU will now apply a hybrid model where both UTME scores and LASU-specific screening procedures will play pivotal roles in final admissions.
“This change is part of our strategic plan to ensure fairness, merit, and alignment with our institutional standards,” said the university spokesperson.
University insiders say the new approach is designed to improve the quality of admitted students while eliminating irregularities associated with centralized admission filtering.
“This hybrid model gives LASU better control over who gets admitted while still respecting JAMB’s national structure,” a senior official told SparkMedia Africa. “It’s a win-win.”
For prospective students and parents, this change implies:
“Any candidate who fails to follow the revised process or ignores the LASU screening guidelines will not be considered, regardless of UTME score,” the circular warned.
The institution also advised candidates to regularly check the LASU website and JAMB CAPS for updates.
