Nigerian social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, has made a public U-turn in the long-standing controversy between singer Cynthia Morgan and her former record label boss Jude Okoye.
In a candid revelation, Verydarkman said he had a face-to-face conversation with Jude Okoye at a recent event, where they discussed the fallout with Cynthia Morgan — including issues of royalties, catalogue rights, and the use of her stage name.
The activist, who had previously criticized Jude Okoye for allegedly exploiting Cynthia Morgan, shared that Okoye presented him with key pieces of evidence that contradicted the singer’s claims.
“He showed me a 2016 video where Cynthia Morgan herself announced her new name, Madrina. That debunks the story that Jude restricted her from using it,” he said.
According to Verydarkman, Jude Okoye also disclosed financial documents showing that Morgan’s royalties totaled just $3,860 since her breakout, and further clarified that the contract Cynthia signed was actually drafted by her and her manager — not by him.
“I asked about the money she accused him of owing. Jude told me to take his financials to any top auditor, and if anything is missing, I should expose him,” Verydarkman stated.
Admitting he had been misled by Cynthia’s public statements, Verydarkman said he felt “foolish” for initially attacking Jude without seeing the full picture.
In light of the new information, he called on Cynthia Morgan to publicly apologise to Jude Okoye for allegedly damaging his image and spreading misinformation online.
The renewed attention on this issue has reignited debates about artist-label relationships and accountability within Nigeria’s music industry.
