UNILORIN Releases Honours List Ahead of Golden Jubilee—Big Names Included

As part of the activities marking its Golden Jubilee, the University of Ilorin will honour 65 distinguished Nigerians—many of whom are alumni of the institution—on Tuesday, 16 July 2025.

The prestigious event, themed “Investiture Ceremony of UNILORIN Ambassadors, Distinguished Alumni, and Award of Excellence,” will take place at the university auditorium, commencing at 11:00 a.m.

Among the honourees are former Vice-Chancellor of the university and current Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Emeritus Is’haq Olanrewaju Oloyede; Dr Tunji Olowolafe; Dr Adeyemi Murtadha Adeniji; Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof Temidayo Oladiji; and former Managing Director of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd, Mr Babatunde Omotowa.

Others include renowned accountant Dr AWA Ibrahim; former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Sarah Alade; Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs Kemi Nandap; and Managing Director of ThisDay Newspapers, Mr Eniola Bello.

Also to be honoured are the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof Abdulrasheed Na’Allah; Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Lokoja, Prof Olayemi Akinwumi; Prof David Durosomo; and Justice Asmau Tanwa Akanbi, among others.

In a statement released on Sunday by the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Chairman of the Awards Planning Committee, Prof AbdulRasheed Adeoye, noted that the ceremony aims to celebrate alumni and individuals who have distinguished themselves in their fields, enhanced the university’s reputation, and contributed significantly to its growth.

He stated, “This ceremony is not only a recognition of the achievements of our honourees but also a moment of reflection and pride for us all as members of the UNILORIN family.”

According to the statement, one alumnus and one other distinguished Nigerian will receive the Award of Excellence, 10 individuals will be recognised as Distinguished Alumni, while 50 individuals and three graduating sets will be conferred with the title of UNILORIN Ambassadors.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Wahab Egbewole (SAN), will serve as the chief host, while eminent legal luminary and Professor of Practice, Mallam Olaolu Ali (SAN), will deliver the keynote address.
