A Nigerian student studying in Israel has shared a chilling account of his experience during the recent Israel-Iran conflict, describing moments of fear, uncertainty, and survival as tensions escalated in the region.

Caught in the Crossfire

The student, who requested anonymity for security reasons, revealed that life turned chaotic when hostilities broke out between Israel and Iran. He recounted how sirens blared frequently, signaling incoming attacks, forcing residents, including foreign students, to take shelter in bunkers.

“The situation was terrifying. We had to run to safety several times a day. Nobody was sure what would happen next. It was a matter of survival,” he said.

Communication Breakdown and Panic

According to him, the war disrupted normal activities, including academic schedules. Internet and phone services were intermittently cut off, leaving many students unable to reach their families back home.

“The hardest part was not being able to call home. My parents in Nigeria were worried sick because they heard about the attacks on the news,” he added.

Nigerian Government’s Role

He also confirmed that the Nigerian embassy in Israel made efforts to contact Nigerian citizens in the country, providing emergency hotlines and temporary shelters for those in high-risk zones.

However, some students claimed that the evacuation plans were slow, leaving them stranded amid the escalating conflict.

Hope Amidst Uncertainty

Despite the trauma, the student expressed gratitude for being alive and called on the Nigerian government to improve its crisis response for citizens abroad.

“We need better support systems during emergencies like this. It could have been worse,” he concluded.
