Bayelsa Police Launch Manhunt for Suspected Cyber Stalkers After Viral Assault Video

Bayelsa police investigate viral cyberstalking case involving Nancy Wilfred

The Bayelsa State Police Command has stepped into action following a disturbing case that has left Nigerians outraged. Four young women are currently on the run after being accused of indecent assault, attempted murder, cyberbullying, and abduction of a 19-year-old girl, Nancy Wilfred.

Nancy, originally from Imo State but running a small business in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, recounted how she was ambushed and assaulted on August 29, 2025. The teenager’s harrowing story went viral after she posted her ordeal on social media, sparking public anger and calls for justice across the country.

According to Nancy, she was lured under the guise of picking up clothes from a dry cleaner. Instead, she was confronted by four young women identified as Becky, Blessing, Favour, and Miracle. She alleged that they restrained her, shaved off her hair, confiscated her phone, and even threatened her with a knife. The attack was so severe that Nancy said she feared she might have suffered internal bleeding.

What made the matter worse, she claimed, was that one of the key suspects, identified as “Kadi,” was granted bail under questionable circumstances. This revelation fueled suspicions that some individuals were working behind the scenes to shield the culprits.

Public Outrage and Reactions

The case has ignited widespread reactions from activists, women’s rights groups, and ordinary Nigerians. Dr. Helen Bob, Technical Adviser to the Bayelsa Governor on Girl Child Development, condemned the act as “barbaric and mentally brutalizing.” She called on society to stand firmly with Nancy and push for justice.

Similarly, the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), RATTAWU, and the Association of Women Against Gender-Based Violence have all raised their voices against the assault. NAWOJ’s Bayelsa chairperson described the incident as “inhuman” and demanded immediate accountability.

Adding to the momentum, popular social media activist Very Dark Man pledged a ₦2 million reward for credible information that would lead to the suspects’ arrest. Former agitator Paul Eris and leadership consultant Dr. Ayibapreye Isaac Benson also joined in condemning the act, describing it as a dangerous trend of violence among youths.
