Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang Pledges Justice, Security, and Unity with 1,000 Youths to Join Operation Rainbow

Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang announces recruitment of 1,000 youths into Operation Rainbow for community security.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to justice, security, and unity across the state, announcing plans to recruit over 1,000 youths into the community security outfit, Operation Rainbow.

Speaking on Sunday at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Jos during the commencement of the 2025/2026 Legal Year, Governor Mutfwang said his government is determined to strengthen peace and protect communities by expanding the state-backed security network. The event, attended by judicial officers, clergy, and legal practitioners, marked the official opening of the judiciary’s new calendar year.

“The God who has kept us this far will sustain us for the days ahead,” the governor declared in a message of thanksgiving and renewal. He praised Plateau’s judiciary for their resilience in the face of resource limitations, noting that when his administration assumed office, it met a judiciary “weighed down by numerous challenges,” yet judges continued to discharge their duties with “courage and dignity.”

Governor Mutfwang revealed that his administration has already begun improving the welfare of retired judges, including the payment of long-overdue entitlements. “We have taken concrete actions to ameliorate their situation by beginning the payment of their outstanding entitlements. Though the process is ongoing, it has commenced and, by God’s grace, it will be completed,” he assured.

While commending judicial officers, the governor also urged caution in the exercise of discretion, warning that the abuse of judicial powers could weigh heavily on one’s conscience. “Judicial discretion used judiciously serves the ends of justice. But discretion abused will weigh heavily on a man’s conscience, and he will not be able to stand before his Creator,” he stated.

On security, Mutfwang announced the forthcoming recruitment of over 1,000 youths into Operation Rainbow, Plateau State’s community policing initiative. He explained that these young recruits will be deployed back to their respective communities as both the first and last line of defense, complementing the efforts of conventional security agencies.

With this expansion of Operation Rainbow, the Plateau State government aims to enhance grassroots security, promote unity among communities, and safeguard lives and property. Governor Mutfwang emphasized that these efforts are part of a broader commitment to justice, peace, and the protection of every citizen in the state.
