The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade initially scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2025, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The decision was disclosed in a statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, on Monday, 29 September.

Why the Parade Was Cancelled

According to the government, the move does not diminish the significance of the milestone celebration. Instead, it emphasised that Nigeria’s 65th independence would still be marked with dignity and enthusiasm through other scheduled programmes.

“The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary, and the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement read.

Other Activities Still Hold

While the parade will no longer take place, the Federal Government confirmed that all other events lined up for the Independence Anniversary will proceed as planned.

This includes cultural programmes, commemorative gatherings, and official ceremonies.

Appeal to Nigerians

The government expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the decision and appealed to Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests for their understanding and cooperation.

It further urged citizens to continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s reforms, which it said were aimed at building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
