The Lagos State Government has announced that enforcement of dedicated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes will resume on Eko Bridge and Odo Iya Alaro Link Bridge starting Monday, October 6, 2025.
The enforcement had been temporarily suspended on July 2 to reduce congestion during the rehabilitation of the Ogudu-Ifako Bridge, which connects Ogudu and Ifako communities on the Lagos Mainland.
According to Tobi Idowu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport Education and Enforcement, the decision is part of ongoing measures to improve orderliness, reduce travel time, and optimise BRT infrastructure for residents.
“Motorists are strongly advised to comply with this directive, as relevant agencies will strictly enforce adherence to the dedicated BRT lanes,” Mr Idowu said.
Similarly, the Governor’s Special Adviser on New Media, Jubril Gawat, confirmed the resumption on X (formerly Twitter), noting that the repair works on the Ogudu Bridge had been fully completed and the road fully reopened.
The Ogudu-Ifako Bridge reopened on Tuesday, September 30, after 78 days of rehabilitation work, well ahead of the original 101-day schedule.
During a site inspection, Olufemi Daramola, Special Adviser on Infrastructure, and Seun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation, affirmed the project’s early completion, stressing that the repairs were vital for road safety and traffic efficiency.
Mr Daramola said the rehabilitation, which involved eight phases and covered both lanes of the bridge, was essential for ensuring structural durability. Mr Osiyemi expressed gratitude to residents for their patience and urged them to safeguard public infrastructure. He also confirmed that similar maintenance projects would be undertaken across Lagos.
The rehabilitation works, initially scheduled to last from June 28 to October 15, were briefly suspended in September due to security concerns before resuming. Despite the challenges, the early reopening is expected to significantly ease congestion for commuters.
