NDDC Issues Alert on Fake Scholarship Scams

Port Harcourt, Nigeria* – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued a strong warning to the public about fraudulent schemes falsely offering postgraduate scholarships under the commission’s name.

In a statement released on Sunday, *Mrs. Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs at the NDDC, revealed that scammers have been targeting unsuspecting individuals with *fake scholarship offers, requesting money and personal information under false pretenses.

“The attention of the NDDC has been drawn to fraudulent emails and messages sent to applicants of the commission’s Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Programme,” Thompson-Wakama stated.

She explained that the emails, supposedly sent from nddcregistry@gmail.com and claiming to represent the “Board Registry” of the NDDC, invited recipients to a *fictitious document verification and authentication exercise. The fraudulent event was falsely scheduled for *May 19 to May 21 at Bishop Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

No Affiliation with Fraudulent Communications

Thompson-Wakama emphasized that the NDDC has no connection to this fake process and warned the public to disregard any unsolicited messages requesting payments or offering unofficial scholarship placements.

“All official communication concerning the NDDC scholarship programme is conducted exclusively through the official portal: www.scholarship.nddc.gov.ng,” she stressed.

She urged members of the public, especially prospective applicants and former beneficiaries of NDDC programmes, to verify all information through the commission’s official website: www.nddc.gov.ng.

Call for Vigilance and Reporting

The commission also called on individuals who receive such fraudulent messages to report them immediately to law enforcement agencies for investigation and appropriate action.

“We encourage Nigerians interested in our programmes to use only official communication channels and to remain vigilant against scams,” Thompson-Wakama concluded.

The NDDC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and urged the public to be cautious and avoid falling victim to cybercriminals exploiting legitimate development initiatives.
