Shocking Abandonment: “They Left Us With Nothing,” Cries Widow of Driver Killed By Air Force Officers
A Lagos housewife, Grace Joseph, has cried out for justice. She claims the Nigerian Air Force has completely abandoned her family after its officers allegedly beat her husband, Joseph Okpe, to death.
The commercial bus driver died just hours after he was severely beaten by military personnel following a minor traffic argument along the busy Oshodi–Apapa Expressway in Lagos.
“They Gave Me Hope, Then Vanished”
Speaking through tears, the mother of three revealed that the military only visited her once to give her a one-time cash gift of ₦200,000 for food. Since that visit, her phone has remained silent.
“He was the breadwinner,” Grace wept. “The Air Force officers came to visit us, and the way they spoke gave me hope. But after they left, everything changed. I have not heard from them again.”
With three children aged 5, 10, and 14, Grace is now left to face the world alone. She revealed that her youngest child cries every single day, asking when his father is coming home from work.
The Midnight Call That Changed Everything
Recalling the tragic night, Grace explained that she and her husband left home happily in the morning. By 8:00 PM, she received a terrifying phone call saying her husband had been in a bad “accident.”
Because it was late and transportation was scarce due to police checkpoints, the family begged the hospital doctor in Mushin to stabilize him. Sadly, just minutes later, the doctor called back with the worst news possible—Joseph was dead.
Military Claims Suspects Are Locked Up
Following the public outcry, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, released a statement. He confirmed that the military is deeply saddened by the loss of life and has arrested the officers involved.
According to the military, the suspect personnel are currently in custody while civil and military authorities investigate the murder.
However, for Grace, arrests do not pay school fees or buy food. She is now desperately begging the government to step in and sponsor the education of her three young children so their future is not completely destroyed.
