Trump Further Threatens Military Action in Nigeria Over Alleged Killings of Christians as Military Intensifies Airstrikes

Donald Trump speaking at a political rally after threatening military action in Nigeria over Christian killings

Trump threatens military action in Nigeria over alleged killings of Christians, sparking widespread reactions and renewed military offensives in the country’s northern region.

In a recent post on his Truth Social platform, former U.S. President Donald Trump said he had ordered the U.S. Department of War to “prepare for possible action” if what he called the “persecution of Christians in Nigeria” continues.

“If the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria and may very well go into that now-disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists committing these horrible atrocities,” Trump wrote.

“If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet—just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians.”

Nigerian Military Responds with Intense Operations

Following Trump’s post, the Nigerian military has ramped up both land and air operations in the North, targeting insurgent enclaves in Borno, Katsina, and Kwara States.

Military sources confirmed that troops under Operation Hadin Kai and Operation FANSAN YAMMA carried out precision strikes on Boko Haram and ISWAP strongholds.

Over 50 ISWAP fighters were killed in violent clashes with Boko Haram around Toumbun Gini in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, after ISWAP launched an attack to reclaim lost territory.

Eyewitnesses described the battle as one of the deadliest in months. A video obtained by reporters showed fighters chanting “Allahu Akbar” as bodies floated on water after Boko Haram forces ambushed the attackers.

“ISWAP boats landed, but what was meant to be a surprise attack turned into a deadly trap,” a source said. “JAS fighters overpowered them within minutes.”

Troops Foil Boko Haram Ambush, Rescue 86 Civilians

Hours before the ISWAP-Boko Haram clash, soldiers of the 135 Special Forces Battalion foiled a Boko Haram ambush along the Buratai–Kamuya Road, rescuing 86 victims and arresting 29 suspected logistics suppliers.

Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, multiple magazines, ammunition belts, five vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles. The terrorists’ camp was destroyed.

Air Force Delivers Precision Strikes

In a related development, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) executed multiple precision airstrikes on terrorist hideouts across Borno, Kwara, and Katsina States.

NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, confirmed that the operations were guided by real-time intelligence, targeting logistics hubs, weapons stores, and mobility convoys used by ISWAP fighters.

“The strikes destroyed insurgent hideouts, logistics hubs, and weapons storage facilities, eliminating several terrorists and crippling their mobility,” Ejodame said.

He added that air assets under Operation FANSAN YAMMA struck the hideout of a major terrorist kingpin in Zango Hill, Katsina State, in one of the most decisive air raids of the year.

Nationwide Counterterror Push

Air interdiction missions also extended to Garin Dandi and Chigogo in Kwara State and across Zamfara, Kebbi, and Kaduna, where reconnaissance flights disrupted armed groups along the Birnin Gwari–Funtua corridor.

The Nigerian Air Force emphasized that these sustained counterterrorism efforts follow directives from the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, who vowed to maintain “unrelenting pressure” on all terrorist groups threatening the nation’s peace.
