The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Taraba State Chapter, Hon. Moses Maihankali, has described the establishment of the Nigerian Army’s 10 Division in Jalingo as a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen regional security and protect lives and property.
Speaking on Tuesday in Jalingo, Maihankali—who also serves as the Chairman of Kurmi Local Government Council—stated that the creation of the military division under the leadership of Governor Agbu Kefas represents one of the administration’s most vital achievements in combating security challenges, particularly across vulnerable border communities.
Protecting Border Communities and Adjoining States
According to Maihankali, the operational takeoff of the 10 Division will enhance military operations not only within Taraba State but also in neighboring Adamawa State and other adjoining areas that have historically faced persistent security threats.
The new division is positioned to address specific border vulnerabilities—including trans-border crimes, arms trafficking, and illegal migration—across key local government areas like Kurmi, Takum, Gashaka, and Sardauna.
“The establishment of the 10 Division is expected to strengthen military operations in Taraba and neighbouring Adamawa State. It will also improve security across other adjoining communities that have faced security challenges over the years.” — Hon. Moses Maihankali, ALGON Chairman, Taraba State Chapter
Maihankali commended Governor Kefas and critical military stakeholders for their collaborative efforts in making the division a reality. He urged residents of Taraba State to actively support the Nigerian Army by sharing credible information and cooperating with security personnel.
Praises for Governance and Workers’ Welfare
Beyond security achievements, the ALGON chairman commended Governor Kefas’ broader governance agenda, highlighting key interventions in civil service welfare.
Maihankali praised the administration’s recent approval and payment of five months’ salary arrears to workers and benefits to retired civil servants, describing it as clear proof of the government’s commitment to improving the living standards of citizens.
He appealed to residents to remain united, reject violence, and continue backing the state government’s “Moving Forward” agenda to ensure sustained socio-economic growth and infrastructure development.
