Amaarae Explains Why She Vowed Never to Eat at Other People’s Homes

Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae has shared a personal hygiene principle that many might find surprising: she avoids eating food at other people’s homes. The ‘Sad Girls Love Money’ star opened up about this decision during a candid interview with media personality Madame Joyce.

According to Amaarae, her strict hygiene standards stem from a shocking experience where she witnessed someone washing lettuce in a bathroom sink. That single moment led her to swear off eating outside her own space.

“I don’t like mixing bathroom and bedroom things,” she said. “If you’re brushing your teeth, stay in the bathroom. Don’t walk around the house with your toothbrush in your mouth — it’s disgusting.”

The singer emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene-specific zones in the home, citing examples like not disposing of used toothpicks in bedroom trash bins and not using the same sponge for both plates and wine glasses.

Amaarae recounted how her hygiene principles were reinforced at a barbecue event. “I was waiting for a burger, and I saw the host washing lettuce in their bathroom sink,” she said. “You brush your teeth and spit in that sink — why would you then wash food there?”

She concluded that her preference for strict cleanliness has made her extremely cautious about where and what she eats, insisting that she even has house rules for guests to ensure her standards are maintained.
