Aregbesola meets Oyinlola to woo him to ADC — that’s how the rumor mill kicked off on Monday after famous photos of the meeting at Okuku went viral. The interim national secretary of ADC, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, reportedly visited his predecessor, former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, in Okuku, Osun State, to entice him into joining the African Democratic Congress.
Aregbesola, who succeeded Oyinlola in November 2010 after a drawn-out legal battle over the 2007 governorship election, was joined by interim national chairman Senator David Mark. The duo has been criss‑crossing the South-West, rallying big political figures into the fold as opposition forces align ahead of the 2027 general election.
An inside source who attended the encounter told Punch that Aregbesola made a polite but firm pitch urging Oyinlola to come over to ADC. In his response, Oyinlola reportedly expressed appreciation for the visit but stayed mum on any commitment.
When contacted, Osun ADC chairman Charles Omidiji confirmed the meeting, but said he didn’t attend. “Politics na numbers,” he remarked. “We know PDP big names may move, maybe even APC. Many are coming, I tell you free. This is all about making victory easier for us,” Omidiji added.
While Aregbesola’s camp insists this visit was strictly political outreach, observers are watching closely for ripple effects within the state PDP, APC and the broader coalition landscape.
