Club World Cup Upset: Botafogo Stuns PSG with 1-0 Victory

In a stunning turn of events at the Club World Cup, Brazilian side Botafogo defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 on Thursday night, handing the reigning UEFA Champions League winners their first loss since May 3.

The match’s only goal came just before halftime, as Igor Jesus expertly controlled a long ball from Jefferson Savarino, slipped past two PSG defenders, and fired past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to seal the upset.

Despite the loss, PSG dominated possession and created more chances, ending the match with 16 shot attempts compared to Botafogo’s four. However, Botafogo made every opportunity count, with all four of their shots hitting the target, while PSG managed just two on goal.

PSG, who had earlier crushed Atletico Madrid 4-0 in their opening group match, were without winger Ousmane Dembélé, but still entered the match as heavy favorites. Manager Luis Enrique’s side looked in control for much of the game but failed to convert their attacking pressure into goals.

The result places Botafogo at the top of the group with six points, leaving PSG needing a strong response in their final group match to advance.
