Customs intercept rice hidden in fuel tanker

In a clever smuggling attempt, the Customs intercept rice hidden in fuel tanker near Kebbi State before offloading it at the Kaduna office of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone B. The vehicle—a DAF tanker—concealed 250 bags of foreign parboiled rice, valued at ₦20.51 million, all disguised as fuel cargo.

Agents stopped the tanker thanks to solid intelligence and transferred it to Kaduna for detailed inspection. Customs officials confirmed the rice was under import prohibition. The successful bust underscores Nigeria Customs’ firm commitment to stopping smuggling and protecting local industries.

The operation was led by CSC Saidu Nuruddeen on behalf of the Controller of the Unit, Aliyu Alkali, who praised officers for their vigilance. He reaffirmed the NCS’s dedication to enforcing customs laws and thanked CG Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for his leadership.

This is not the first time Customs has dealt with such an incident. In October 2019, a similar smuggling raid near Kano–Daura road uncovered a tanker carrying 250 bags of rice. Officials warned that the same methods could be used to hide any kind of illegal items—including drugs or weapon
