Renowned veteran singer Alexander Adegbola Akande (9ice) revealed during a recent episode of The Nancy Isime Show that he endured a mysterious illness in 2009/2010—one he believes was a spiritual attack. According to him, this period saw him vomit blood every day for about six months, with no relief through conventional medicine.

In his own words, “It happened in my own house… it wasn’t medical,” and only after being referred to an Ifá priest did he find healing. That experience marked a turning point—prompting him to fully embrace traditional African spirituality instead of Christianity or Islam. As he shared, “I’m African. I’m traditionalist. I’m a Babalawo,” reflecting on how revered figures like Fela Anikulapo Kuti helped him see the power of ancestral faith.

Also on the show, 9ice made a powerful declaration: “the devil controls music”. He stated the devil acts as the choirmaster in the industry, influencing not just artistic direction but also destructive habits like smoking popular among entertainers.

He cautioned young artists: they must be spiritually aware before stepping into music. “If you’re coming into this industry, you should know what you’re walking into… music generally is controlled by the devil,” he warned, claiming his insight is based on a lifetime of spiritual experience in the scene.
