Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has expressed confidence and readiness following his recall to Nigeria’s national team ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Uzoho was named among the three goalkeepers selected by head coach Eric Chelle in a 28-man squad, marking his return to the Super Eagles after more than a year away from international duty.
The goalkeeper last appeared for Nigeria in a friendly match against Ghana in March 2024, before missing subsequent competitive fixtures. His return, however, signals renewed trust from the technical crew as Nigeria prepares for another continental campaign.
Speaking in a video shared by the Nigeria Football Federation, Uzoho described his recall as an emotional and fulfilling moment, highlighting the strong bond he shares with his teammates.
“I missed the boys and the camp vibe. We’ve been through a lot together, and we always check up on one another,” he said.
The former AFCON finalist added that representing Nigeria remains the highest honour of his career, describing the call-up as a moment of pure joy.
“Coming back to represent Nigeria again is the most important thing for me. I felt an unexplainable joy,” Uzoho stated.
He also addressed discussions around squad selection, insisting that national team invitations are based on preparedness and confidence from the coaching staff.
“If you’re invited, it means you’re ready. The coaches and scouts know what they’re doing,” he said.
On perceived rivalry with first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, Uzoho dismissed any notion of competition, stressing unity within the goalkeeping department.
“Stanley is my brother. We support each other and have a very close relationship,” he noted.
Nigeria will head into the 2025 AFCON determined to build on their impressive performance at the last tournament, where they finished runners-up after losing to hosts Ivory Coast in the final.
The Super Eagles are chasing a fourth AFCON title, having previously lifted the trophy in 1980, 1994, and 2013, with renewed optimism surrounding the squad’s depth and experience.
