Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai recently suggested that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna was in a state of internal collapse. However, the Kaduna state chapter of the SDP has strongly denied these claims, affirming its organizational integrity and constitutional governance. The party insisted the claims were both false and reckless.
The Assistant National Secretary for Northwest, Alhaji Idris Inuwa, clarified at a press briefing that El-Rufai has not followed due process for membership and is not recognized within Kaduna’s SDP membership records. He urged El-Rufai—and all others interested—to formally register at the grassroots level as prescribed by the party constitution.
Moreover, the party vigorously rejected any recent attempt to dissolve its Kaduna State Working Committee, labeling such actions unconstitutional and outside party procedure. They reminded the public that the committee was duly elected and remains fully active.
Backing up the official position, the SDP Youths and Supporters Coalition also condemned El-Rufai’s move, accusing him of using the party as a political tool. They described his defection as opportunistic, authoritarian, and potentially harmful to SDP’s democratic framework.
