Popular Nollywood actor Lekan Olatunji has shared harrowing details of a life-threatening car accident in 2022 that left him hospitalized for months and battling memory loss.
Best known for his roles in the Yoruba arm of Nollywood, Olatunji opened up in a recent interview with Celebrity Gists, revealing that the accident nearly claimed his life and forced him to undergo multiple surgeries during a three-month stay in the hospital.
“There was a time I had an accident and it wasn’t easy,” he recalled. “I was in the hospital for three months with memory loss, so I thank God for His grace.”
The actor expressed deep gratitude to both his medical team and God for his survival. He noted that even one of his doctor friends was astonished at his recovery after seeing the extent of his skull injury. “They saw my skull,” he said. “They wouldn’t have believed it if they hadn’t seen it themselves.”
Following the accident, Olatunji had shared a video from his hospital bed showing his head and arms heavily bandaged—images that highlighted the severity of the crash.
Tragically, just a year after surviving the accident, Olatunji suffered another devastating blow with the loss of his wife, the mother of his three children. Despite spending millions on medical care and surgeries, she passed away. In September 2023, the actor visited her grave, sharing emotional photos and a heartfelt message describing her as his strength, anchor, and beacon of light.
Olatunji’s journey of recovery, both physically and emotionally, underscores not only his resilience but also the deep personal trials he’s faced in recent years.
