Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the actor best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on the iconic sitcom The Cosby Show, has died at the age of 54.
According to a report by ABC News on Monday, Warner drowned off the coast of Costa Rica on Sunday. Local police confirmed that the incident occurred near Cocles Beach in the Limón province, and the cause of death was asphyxia resulting from drowning. Authorities revealed that Warner was caught in a rip current before his body was discovered later that afternoon.
Born on August 18, 1970, Warner began his acting career in the early 1980s, with his first television appearance in the series Matt Houston in 1982. He rose to national fame just a few years later through his breakout role on The Cosby Show, where he portrayed the only son in the Huxtable family.
In recent years, Warner had continued to work in television, notably appearing in the FOX medical drama The Resident.
