Manchester City Seal £46.3m Capture of Tijjani Reijnders

Manchester, UK – June 11, 2025 – Manchester City has confirmed the signing of Netherlands international Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for a reported *£46.3 million. The 26-year-old midfielder has committed to a *five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, bolstering Pep Guardiola’s midfield following Kevin De Bruyne’s exit.

Reijnders arrives after a standout season in Serie A, where he registered *the most combined goals and assists of any midfielder. Despite Milan’s underwhelming eighth-place finish and failure to qualify for European competition, Reijnders contributed *15 goals across all tournaments.

A product of AZ Alkmaar’s youth system, Reijnders joined Milan in the summer of 2023. He had also attracted interest from Barcelona but opted for AC Milan, drawn by the club’s storied Dutch legacy—icons such as Frank Rijkaard, Ruud Gullit, and Marco van Basten once made the San Siro their stage. Sources say that, unlike Barcelona, Milan offered a clearer tactical plan for his deployment, a decisive factor in his choice.

At Manchester City, Reijnders will add both composure and kinetic energy. Known for his precise passing and dynamic off-the-ball runs, he addresses the creative and box-to-box needs Guardiola identified during last season’s campaign. His technical prowess earned him Serie A Midfielder of the Year honors, and former City defender Michel Vonk—Reijnders’s youth coach at AZ—described him as “a technical, creative player who can deliver key passes and score goals.”

Reijnders is expected to compete for a starting role alongside City’s established stars as Guardiola seeks to refresh his squad and continue the club’s domestic and European ambitions.
