Mbappé and Güler Tipped to Inherit Real Madrid’s No.10 Shirt After Modric’s Exit

Two Real Madrid stars, Kylian Mbappé and Arda Güler, have reportedly emerged as the leading contenders to take over the club’s iconic No.10 shirt following the departure of veteran midfielder Luka Modric.

Modric, 39, officially left the Spanish giants after their FIFA Club World Cup exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain weeks ago. The Croatia international played his final match for Los Blancos during that tournament, closing a legendary chapter in Madrid’s history.

After deciding not to renew Modric’s contract at the end of the 2024/25 season, Real Madrid allowed the midfield maestro to move on. He has since signed a one-year deal with Serie A side AC Milan, bringing an end to his glittering 12-year tenure at Santiago Bernabéu.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, the club has not yet made a final decision on who will inherit the number 10 shirt, but both Mbappé and Güler are seen as strong candidates.

Mbappé, who joined Madrid this summer in a blockbuster move, is expected to take on a central role in the team’s new era, while Güler, the young Turkish sensation, is seen as a long-term project with massive potential.

Meanwhile, Modric has reflected on his departure and legacy, expressing pride in his achievements at Madrid. The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder leaves with six UEFA Champions League titles, multiple LaLiga championships, and a firm place in the club’s history.

Fans now eagerly await the club’s decision on who will carry on the No.10 legacy at the Bernabéu
