American country music sensation Collins Obinna Chibueze, popularly known as Shaboozey, has expressed his deep-rooted connection to Nigeria, despite being born and raised in Virginia, USA.
The Nigerian-American artist, who recently collaborated with Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy on the track “Change Your Mind,” described the experience as a “homecoming.” Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Shaboozey shared his joy about the collaboration and his pride in his heritage.
“This one feels like a homecoming. Virginia raised me, but Nigeria will always be in my blood — now I get to share that with the world alongside my brother @burnaboy. ‘Change Your Mind’ drops tonight. Grateful, honored, and hope y’all love this song as much as we do!”
Born on May 9, 1995, in Woodbridge, Virginia, to Nigerian immigrant parents, Shaboozey began his music journey in 2014 with the release of his debut single “Jeff Gordon.” He rose to international stardom after featuring on two tracks from Beyoncé’s 2024 country-inspired album Cowboy Carter.
His breakout single, “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” has achieved historic success, tying with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” as the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
With his unique blend of country music and cultural pride, Shaboozey continues to bridge genres and continents, celebrating both his American upbringing and Nigerian roots.
