Abuja, July 8, 2025 — The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa CON, has firmly dismissed recent reports suggesting that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is currently on strike. In a press release issued by the Federal Ministry of Education and signed by Mrs Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press & Public Relations, Dr Alausa emphasized that all federal universities remain fully operational and academically stable .
Speaking from Abuja, the Minister highlighted that there is no ongoing ASUU strike. He underscored that the uninterrupted academic activity spanning over two years—unprecedented in recent times—is the result of deliberate, productive engagement between the government and university unions
“It is not by coincidence that Nigerian public tertiary institutions have remained open and stable for the past two years, something that has not happened in several decades,” he said.
Dr Alausa detailed how phased implementation of union agreements, consistent communication, and mutual respect have sustained this remarkable run of academic peace. He attributed the gains to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places human capital development at its core—particularly the welfare of academic and non-academic university staff.
Reassuring parents, students, and stakeholders, Dr Alausa affirmed that the Federal Government will continue collaborating closely with university unions to safeguard the academic calendar. “Our children are the heartbeat of this nation. Their education must not be interrupted,” he stated.
Dr Alausa concluded his statement by urging Nigerians to disregard any misleading claims of a strike. He described the current atmosphere of academic calm as a shared national achievement that must be preserved and nurtured.
