Oyetola Will Not Contest Osun 2026 Election, Backs APC Aspirants

Adegboyega Oyetola announcing he will not contest Osun 2026 election
Governor Oyetola speaks at APC stakeholders’ meeting, declaring he will not contest the 2026 governorship and pledging support to aspirants.

Oyetola will not contest Osun 2026 election, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy declared during a recent APC stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo. He emphasized his full support for other party aspirants and urged unity to reclaim Osun State in the 2026 polls.

Former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola (2018–2022) stated that while speculation had swirled about a potential comeback, he officially stepped aside. He encouraged aspirants like Senator Babajide Omoworare, Bola Oyebamiji, Kunle Adegoke, and others to coordinate peacefully and uphold party cohesion.

Oyetola reiterated that the APC has robust and capable leadership ready to reclaim Osun and aligned the mission with broader goals of supporting President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

This announcement comes amid internal discussions on how the APC plans to win Osun State in 2026, especially after losing the 2022 governorship to PDP’s Ademola Adeleke. Sources reveal that APC strategists, reportedly convened at a meeting chaired by Oyetola, discussed mobilizing grassroots support, leveraging withheld local government allocations, and blocking defections to shape electoral advantage.

According to insiders, part of the strategy includes sidelining Governor Adeleke from joining the APC, while preparing coordinated legal and resource campaigns to support party control of local government leadership and allocate resources to APC council chairmen
