The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has formally issued expulsion certificates to Nyesom Wike, Ayodele Fayose and nine other high-profile members, declaring them officially removed from the party. The decision — announced by the party’s new leadership under Kabiru Tanimu Turaki — intensifies a long-running internal crisis ahead of the 2027 elections.

At a press briefing in Abuja, Turaki displayed the expulsion certificates and explained that the move aims to formalise the expulsions ratified during the party’s last national convention in Ibadan. According to him, issuing certificates of expulsion ensures compliance with Nigerian law, which prohibits dual party membership; it also serves to notify electoral and security agencies that the affected individuals are no longer members of the PDP.

Turaki said the certificates have been dispatched to the affected individuals by courier and warned that any dealings with them “in the name of PDP” should be considered at one’s own risk.
