Peter Obi under PDP will defeat any candidate in the North — that’s the announcement made by PDP founding father Prof. Jerry Gana during his appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time. According to Gana, in northern states, Obi—if he returns to the PDP platform—would outperform any contender. He added this confidence stems from his research that northerners are “very fair-minded”.
Gana’s remarks have sparked fresh political buzz. The former Information Minister, instrumental in Nigeria’s return to democracy, emphasized the PDP’s grassroots origins and legacy of governance: from winning local councils to restoring civilian rule in 1999.
He also shared that the PDP is quietly courting Obi back for the 2027 polls, alongside other southern political figures. The party aims to revive its influence and reclaim its mantle as Nigeria’s primary opposition.
Despite recent intra-party conflict, Gana downplayed it as a fringe issue limited to Abuja elites. He encouraged focus on the bigger picture: the 2027 zoning plan which, under the unwritten agreement, will return power to the North in 2031.
In Gana’s words: “Our people are very fair, and we are building a nation.” It’s a message that signals confidence—not only in Obi’s appeal—but in a restructured PDP poised for national unity and deliverables beyond regional lines.
