Former France and Manchester United striker, Louis Saha, has suggested that the Red Devils should replace under-fire goalkeeper Andre Onana with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.

Speaking in an interview with Coin Poker, Saha did not mince words in expressing his disappointment with Onana’s performances since arriving from Inter Milan last season. The Cameroonian shot-stopper has struggled to establish confidence at Old Trafford, prompting criticism from both fans and football analysts.

Saha believes Emiliano Martinez is the ideal candidate to take over the gloves at Manchester United. The Argentine international, who played a pivotal role in his country’s 2022 World Cup triumph, has consistently been rated among the world’s top goalkeepers.

“Every top side needs a top-class goalkeeper. Emi Martinez has been voted the best in the world for two years,” Saha said. “Those are the players United need. They need great performers like United used to have. He’s also the kind of character that gives a side confidence.”

Martinez, known for his commanding presence and strong mentality, has been a standout performer for Aston Villa in recent seasons. His leadership and composure have been credited with helping the club secure a Champions League spot last season.

Meanwhile, Onana has been linked with a potential move away from Old Trafford this summer, as Manchester United reportedly consider alternatives in the goalkeeping department.
