The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has taken decisive disciplinary actions following the release of the first-semester results for the 2024/25 session. In a statement issued by the institution’s Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale, the Polytechnic expelled six students for examination malpractice and withdrew 273 students for substandard academic performance.

These measures were sanctioned at the 120th Academic Board Meeting, held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the Main Campus in Lokoja.

Board Chairman Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman praised the efforts of the Result Verification Committee, led by Deputy Rector Dr. Samuel Taiwo Olowo, urging the team to sustain its high standards of diligence.

  • Withdrawal (273 students): These students, drawn from 20 departments and 42 programmes—including Business Administration, Accountancy, Fine Art, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Mass Communication, and Animal Health—failed to meet minimum academic expectations, despite a “conducive atmosphere” for learning.
  • Expulsion (6 students): Details revealed that two students were expelled for impersonation—one each from Business Administration and Accountancy—while four others from Mass Communication were caught with unauthorized materials during exams. These actions violated the Polytechnic’s Students’ Information Handbook.

Prof. Usman lauded the Central Examination Misconduct Committee, chaired by Dr. Grace Ehimony, along with related departmental bodies, for enforcing examination standards. He emphasized the need for ongoing collaboration to preserve quality in teaching and learning.

He also reassured stakeholders of the Board’s and Management’s unwavering commitment to education reforms, encouraging students to take full advantage of the favorable learning environment offered by the institution.

Affected students are required to return all Polytechnic property—including identity cards—to the Security Unit before formally leaving the institution.

Why It Matters
