Abuja, Nigeria — June 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for deeper cooperation between Nigeria and Denmark, focusing on livestock development, educational exchange, and humanitarian support in conflict-affected regions of Nigeria.

The President made this appeal during a meeting at the State House, Abuja, with the Danish Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy, Mr. Dan Jørgensen, who visited Nigeria on an official mission.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

President Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria is open to partnerships that improve agriculture, technical education, and social protection systems. He particularly urged Denmark to support Nigeria’s livestock sector through advanced breeding, sustainable grazing practices, and capacity-building initiatives.

“Denmark is known for innovation in agriculture. We welcome cooperation that improves food security and drives economic development,” President Tinubu said.

Focus on Education and Skills

Education was a key talking point. President Tinubu highlighted his administration’s commitment to revamping vocational training and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. He invited Denmark to support skills development through scholarships, teacher exchanges, and investment in technical colleges.

“The future belongs to nations that invest in their youth. We are ready to collaborate on this front,” he added.

Humanitarian Aid for Troubled Regions

Tinubu also thanked Denmark for its humanitarian support in the Northeast and called for increased collaboration in disaster response, internally displaced persons (IDP) care, and trauma recovery programs. He expressed hope that Denmark would expand its footprint in Nigeria’s humanitarian space through technical and logistical aid.

🇩🇰 Denmark Pledges Support

In response, Minister Jørgensen reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development goals. He praised Nigeria’s role in regional peacekeeping and noted that Denmark sees Nigeria as a key partner in Africa’s stability, climate adaptation, and inclusive development.

“We value our friendship with Nigeria and look forward to deepening it across agriculture, climate policy, and education,” said Jørgensen.

🌍 Why It Matters

This visit strengthens the growing diplomatic ties between Nigeria and European partners beyond trade. With Nigeria facing economic and social challenges, strategic collaborations like these may improve food security, education quality, and social resilience in vulnerable regions.

Talks are expected to continue between Nigerian ministries and Danish officials to develop memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in education and agriculture. Implementation teams from both countries are expected to meet in the coming months.
