TunesBid Limited, a Nigerian record label, has filed a lawsuit against rising singer Ayo Maff, accusing him of breaching an exclusive recording agreement signed in December 2023. The label, in a public statement shared via its official Instagram page, alleged that the artist and his management team violated the terms of the contract and acted in bad faith.
According to TunesBid, the label fully funded the production and promotion of Maff’s singles — Street Anthem, Dealer, and 7 Days — and also secured a distribution deal with Empire Distribution on his behalf.
The contract, which was finalized on December 3, 2023, included legal representation from Oyefeso Oluwamayowa Olumide, Okolie Amobi Chiedu, and Oyefeso Ayotunde, acting on behalf of OceansTreasure Limited, who represented the artist. The agreement reportedly required the release of the three funded singles within the first seven months of the deal.
However, TunesBid claims that Ayo Maff and his team have engaged in actions that constitute a “dishonourable contract,” allegedly attempting to defraud the label by entering into unauthorized deals outside the terms of the agreement.
In response, the label has issued a stern warning to show promoters and entertainment companies, urging them to cease all dealings with Ayo Maff or risk facing legal consequences. TunesBid emphasized that the artist remains under contract and that any engagement with him would be in direct violation of their legal agreement.
The developing case sheds light on ongoing tensions between record labels and artists in the Nigerian music industry, particularly around contract enforcement and artist independence.
