Outrage has trailed a disturbing video showing operatives of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group in Anambra State assaulting and stripping a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The incident, which reportedly occurred on 23 July 2025, went viral on social media on Monday after being uploaded by the Haven 360 Foundation via Facebook.
In the clip, armed vigilante operatives stormed a lodge occupied by corps members. They accused the young graduates of being “yahoo people”—a term commonly used to describe internet fraudsters. Despite the corps members producing their NYSC identity cards and uniforms, the vigilantes continued to brutalize them.
One of the victims, identified as Jennifer Edema Elohor, was mercilessly beaten, stripped naked, and left bleeding. The video showed her humiliation, while her colleagues were also subjected to threats and harassment.
Haven 360 Foundation, which first published the video, strongly condemned the actions of the vigilantes.
“On July 23, 2025, these state actors stormed the corpers’ lodge, accusing the members of being ‘Yahoo people,’ despite their prompt production of NYSC identification cards and uniforms. The assault was particularly egregious in the case of Jennifer Edema Elohor, who was beaten, stripped naked, and left exposed and covered in blood,” the foundation said in a statement.
The organisation added that the corps members endured sexually degrading words, threats of violation, and extreme humiliation.
The foundation has urged both the Anambra State Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria to act swiftly and ensure justice for the victims.
It demanded:
“Our team is already on ground working with legal representation for the victims and others in ensuring this matter is not swept under the carpet. We will deploy every resource available to us and allowed by law to fight this matter until justice prevails,” the foundation assured.
The video has sparked nationwide outrage, with many Nigerians on social media demanding accountability and calling for stronger protection of NYSC members serving in volatile areas.
