The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reiterated that his primary political goal centers on the Wike 2027 Tinubu reelection campaign, pledging his full support to secure a second term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, September 21, 2026, following an inspection tour of major road projects in Abuja, Wike addressed political criticisms regarding his cross-party engagements.

Dismissing allegations that the multi-party Rainbow Coalition was established to destabilize existing political structures, the minister described the claims as “baseless,” emphasizing that the alliance simply unites supporters behind the current administration.

Defending the Rainbow Coalition: Lessons from the 2023 G5

Addressing concerns over cross-party alliances, Wike questioned why political commentators view the coalition with suspicion today when similar dynamics occurred during the 2023 general elections.

Pointing to the role played by the G5 governors within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, Wike argued that cross-party alliances built around national goals are a standard feature of political strategy.

“Looking back at 2023 when it was the G5, why did nobody complain that it would destabilise the party? Did the President not win? Did it affect the APC-controlled National Assembly? He added that the coalition is not attempting to block anyone’s political ambitions, but is organizing both APC members and non-partisan citizens to back President Tinubu’s agenda.

The FCT Minister also dismissed speculation suggesting that his political alignments are designed to position him for a presidential run in 2031.

Wike, who ran in the 2022 PDP presidential primaries, emphasized that long-term political outcomes rest in the hands of God and the sitting leadership.

Alongside political updates, Wike highlighted progress on key capital projects across the Federal Capital Territory, assuring residents that major road corridors would be completed ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

Projects inspected during Monday’s tour include:

• The Inner Southern Expressway: Expansion work running from Ring Road I to Ring Road II.
• Southern Parkway Service Lanes: Dualization extending from Arterial Road S20 in Gaduwa District to Ring Road II.
• Nile University Connector Road: Construction linking the university area directly to Ring Road III.

Wike commended the project contractors for maintaining engineering standards and reiterated the administration’s commitment to delivering key urban infrastructure.
